For all you South Rim fanatics, we highly recommend venturing north just once. It's forested, less populated, and well worth the drive. We weathered 35 degree lows with a bit of freezing rain but all was pleasantly cozy in The Ship. The view from our campsite was spectacular, about 100 yards from the canyon edge.
Hiking down to the canyon is no easy feat. Actually, it's the way up that gets you. We went as far down as we could being that we got a late start due to a rainy, cold morning. It's well worth the effort, and we admire those of you that have journeyed down to the mighty Colorado River and back!
