Hyder, Alaska

Hyder, Alaska, is a bizarre detour from the Cassiar Highway. It is at the very southern tip of Alaska surrounded by fjords and Canada. There's not even a U.S. border checkpoint to enter. Hyder is famous for its bear-viewing platforms, which brown and black bears swarm in late summer to catch the running salmon. We got to see one black bear for a few minutes and a bald eagle but no sign of the grizz.
